The Context of Shakespearean Drama

(1564-1616), William Shakespeare, a proficient playwright and poet, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. William Shakespeare was raised in a middle-class family that had money and strong aspirations, his father John Shakespeare was a glover (maker of gloves) by trade and also active in the local government, and his mother, Mary Shakespeare was a writer.

Shakespeare was born during the late 16th century, a time of great cultural and intellectual growth, known as the Renaissance. The Renaissance is an important aspect of Shakespeare's plays because it greatly influenced the themes, ideas, and artistic techniques he incorporated into his work. During this period, there was a renewed interest in classical literature, philosophy, and humanism. The Renaissance not only shaped the themes and ideas of Shakespeare’s plays but also left an indelible mark on the language and style he used. Shakespeare was a diligent playwright and one of the first playwrights to bring the Renaissance’s core values to the theaters.

Being a playwright and poet Shakespeare’s plays were exposed to different kinds of audiences, cultures, and religious beliefs. Performing to different kinds of audiences is an important aspect of Shakespeare's plays because they influenced the way his plays were written and performed. His plays were enjoyed by a wide range of people, from the nobility to the commoners. This diverse audience meant that Shakespeare had to create plays that could appeal to and engage people from various social backgrounds and levels of education. He had to strike a balance between entertaining the masses with elements of comedy and action, while also incorporating deeper themes and complex characters to satisfy the more sophisticated audience members. This versatility in his writing allowed Shakespeare's plays to resonate with people from all walks of life and contributed to their enduring popularity.

Not the Ninja Turtles - Summer

In my English class, we have been doing a research project based on famous Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael.

If you grew up watching the TV show 'The Ninja Turtles' you may recognize these names, the author of the Ninja Turtles thought that the quirky names would suit the characters and the concept.

So in this slideshow, I will be researching the upbringing, talents, and interesting facts about each of these supreme Renaissance artists.

Enjoy!

Learning Reflection 1: Planning - Power to the People

Looking back at the planning we did at the start, I think I, as well as my group, were all willing and already dedicated to putting in the hard work for our project.

We all did well in our roles and used our skills to the best. We planned out our interviews and information well.

Making and setting up interviews with electricians ahead of time was a great help and it gave us an extra step forward before we had even started creating our final project board.

Having had the experience of this project, if I were planning another project I

would've kept up with our weekly learning reviews, therefore I could later review how I could've changed any bad habits during our learning or worked on any flaws I had in my group.

Our Proposal

POWER TO THE PEOPLE . Learning Reflection

1. What have you achieved/learned/found out since your last post?

I have achieved building confidence while working in a group, We have achieved lots of work on our checklist, & we achieved working actively and focusing as a group.

We have learned a lot of new information and also many facts on our project, We learned how to make more formal questions rather than casual questions for the people we are interviewing, and we learned how to manage our time well so we can finish everything within a certain amount of time.

We found out that gas from the boiler room is getting phased out every day, Brent O'Hagen believes heat pumps are very efficient, Heat pumps are efficient in the way that they are a lot easier to install rather than radiators, and also that they heat up alot more swiftly.

2. How effectively have you used your time this week?

During this week we used our time very effectively, We booked and completed an interview with Brent O'Hagen, We made multiple vlog videos and I rigorously edited them, and we completed our Project Proposal.

3. How have you contributed to your group’s progress?

As for myself I have contributed to the progress by completing all the recordings and editing for our vlogs, aswell as my individual Project Proposal.

4. Glows: something that is going well in your project:

Completing tasks quickly, Working well as a team and sharing our ideas without feeling uncomfortable.

5. Grows: Something you need to work on:

Letting people know what work I'm focusing on rather that doing my own thing suddenly.

6. Where could you get help with this?

Communicating with my group about how I feel.

7. What are the next steps for your project?

The next steps and to complete our interview with Ian McMillan, start our final project presentation & practise our presenting skills.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE. [What is it?]

Kia Ora everyone!

This term we have started a year 10 project, The theme is “Power to the People” and we have been learning about electricity, sustainability, and energy use and conservation in your Science classes.  This project will help us develop collaboration skills, research skills, and project management in your Social Sciences classes while using your English communication skills to reflect, share, and present your final project.

Me and a few of my friends have become a group for this project.

Jessica, Jordan, Jeana, Eunacee & Winter, We are all collaborating on this project together.

We are assigned roles for each week we plan and practice our presentation. Currently, I am the tech manager, My importance is to make sure all the devices we use are charged or working and to blog/vlog our learning reflections and the progress we make.

I'll make sure to keep everyone updated on how we go with this project!

Thank you.
